| January 6, 2010 Hello, fellow chess players: 2010 year started off with a bang at the New Britain Chess Club, with resident Expert James Nitz (also referred to as "Kramnitz") storming the strong competition and becoming the winner of the first NBCC event of the year - the 2010 NB New Years Open Blitz Chess Tournament. Congratulations to James for his excellent performance in the Finals. He won 6.5 games out of 7 and won $40. Winning the second place prize in the Finals was USCF National Master Dennis Prawira, who scored 5.5 out of 8 and won $20. Dennis Prawira won the 2008 New Britain New Years Open Blitz Tournament with FIDE Master Danny Rozovsky, incidentally. The winners of the Reserve Sections were: Section 1: Derek Meredith (winner of the 2006, 2007, and 2009 New Britain New Years Open Blitz Tournament) - perfect score Section 2: Stuart Mushala (the "Kozlowski Kid" deserves honorable mention for coming in at a very close second, only .5 points behind) -won 5 out of 6 Derek and Stuart each won $20. This tournament was non-rated. Randy Shane and I directed this event. Thanks to all twenty-four players who participated in this tournament.
